About Fondation Louis Vuitton

Fondation Louis Vuitton was established at the initiative of Bernard Arnault, aiming to foster creativity and artistic innovation under the auspices of the LVMH group. Designed by architect Frank Gehry and inaugurated in 2014, the building’s distinctive glass “sails” reflect Gehry’s vision of interplay between light, transparency, and fluid forms. Historical plans for the foundation date back to the early 2000s, when discussions on creating a new cultural institution in Paris first began. Construction eventually started in 2006, and the structure underwent several phases of engineering and design refinements to achieve its iconic silhouette.

Inside, the foundation’s permanent collection showcases significant works of modern and contemporary art, highlighting a global roster of artists. Temporary exhibitions run throughout the year, offering diverse perspectives on painting, sculpture, digital art, and immersive installations. We recommend spending at least two hours exploring the multiple galleries, each designed to captivate with unique layouts and architectural features. The terraces provide panoramic views of Paris and the surrounding Bois de Boulogne, which can be especially inspiring on clear days. We also advise closely observing the way natural light filters through the glass façades—it adds a dynamic element to the viewing experience.

Nearby Attractions

While at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, we suggest visiting the adjacent Jardin d’Acclimatation for a pleasant stroll or a relaxing break. This historical amusement park has been charming visitors since the 19th century and is an ideal spot for families or anyone wishing to enjoy a green setting. In terms of dining, Le Frank—situated within the foundation—serves contemporary cuisine and offers a sleek atmosphere that complements the art-focused environment. For a more casual meal, several nearby cafés in the Bois de Boulogne area serve local specialties and pastries. After immersing yourself in the artworks and architecture, we recommend visiting the foundation’s gift shop for art books and design items or unwinding in the surrounding park before continuing your day in Paris.
